Poker News: Of course the really big success story at the WSO Poker Tournament this year was psychologist Jerry Yang winning the Main Event, walking away with over $8 million and the championship bracelet – the most coveted prize in the poker world. Play online poker
While only one of the 8,000 players that paid the $10,000 registration fee can win first prize, thousands are proud to just make it to the championship poker tournament. If they aren’t eliminated in the first round, that’s a success in itself. Read poker blogs
One such player is Robert P., a grocery story manager from northern California. Not an extremely experienced or aggressive player, Robert got lucky one night and won a WSO Poker Tournament satellite tournament hosted by PlayersOnly.com. He could have just pocketed his $12,000 prize that night but he decided to use it to register and play in the Big One in Las Vegas this month. Play full tilt poker

A drop, yes. But the reason for that drop has nothing to do with popularity. It’s because federal legislation pulled the plug on online poker betting. Law now prohibits banks and credit card companies from making U.S. customer payments to online poker sites for any type of gambling.Play route 66 poker
So, the WSOP didn’t take registrations from online poker tournaments this year. In a recent USA Today article, however, poker pro Robert Williamson III said although the legislation may have hurt the game, he’s seen a massive increase in live events. Poker News: World Series of Poker organisers do not seem overly concerned that the player entries for Day 1A of the main event are down 40 percent this year at 1 300 hopefuls. But speculation that the reduced interest may be due to the decision to exclude online poker sponsorships this year may be a little premature. Jeffrey Pollack, the WSO Poker tournament commissioner says the dip may be due to other factors and that there is nothing to substantiate the Internet exclusion theory.
"This year's WSO Poker tournament is the best ever," the official says. "Poker is alive and well based on the great success we've had for the entire 2007 Series. Whether we have three, six, or nine thousand players in the main event, everyone who plays will have a wonderful and thrilling experience." Play online poker
Observers making projections based on Day 1A estimate that if Days 1B through 1D follow the same trend, the total main event field could be as low as 5 000 players - way down from last year's record 8 773 entrants, which included online poker sponsored seats. Registration remains open until the end of Day 1. Read poker blogs
