Poker Academy Student Bests Largest-Ever Field To Become 2007 World Series of Poker® Ladies Champion

Sally Anne Boyer etched her name in the poker record books last night as women poker pro by setting two records simultaneously at the 38th Annual World Series of Poker® presented by Milwaukee’s Best Light.

First, the self-employed part-time woman poker player from Midway, UT outlasted the largest field of players ever to compete in a ladies-only live poker tournament. In so doing, Boyer also took home the biggest cash prize ever issued in a ladies tournament: $262,077. Play online poker.

This year’s Ladies Championship drew 1,286 entries, up from the previous record of 1,128 registrants set at the 2006 World Series of Poker Tournament. The total prize pool generated for this year’s Ladies Championship – $1,170,260 – also constitutes a record. The $1,000 buy-in, three-day event began June 10 at the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino. “I attended the WSOP poker camp (a few days ago) which was very helpful to me,” said Boyer in a post-tournament interview. “You dream about winning, but to sit here and actually become the world champion is just more than I could have imagined. I wonder when I am going to wake up.”

In addition to winning the highly-coveted World Series of Poker gold bracelet and the lion’s share of tournament cash, Boyer received an exclusive, high-end Corum watch as well as unique benefits from the WNBA’s Los Angeles Sparks. Boyer also won the opportunity to participate in a Harrah’s exclusive lifestyle and makeover event called “The New You” from Nely Galan, creator of “The Swan”. She is also an online poker pro.

“We’ve seen another record fall and yet another star rise at the WSOP,” said World Series of Poker Commissioner Jeffrey Pollack. “Sally played an unbelievable tournament, and we’re thrilled to award her a first-of-its-kind prize package to mark her milestone victory.”

The Ladies World Championship bracelet, designed and manufactured by Corum, the Official Timepiece of the WSOP, features four black diamonds, two rubies and 87 blue sapphires. Corum also designed a Ladies Championship watch, an Admiral’s Cup Competition 40, which is a Swiss-made, 12-sided stainless steel case time piece with signature nautical pennants as hour markers that is water-resistant to 330 feet. The Los Angeles Sparks, two-time WNBA Champions, are providing Boyer with VIP treatment at one of the team’s home games this season, including two courtside seats, recognition at the game and a signed Jersey. Boyer also received a VIP weekend at a Harrah’s-operated casino to attend “The New You” exclusive makeover and lifestyle event, created by “The Swan” creator Galan to teach participants about health, wellness and beauty from leading professionals in the field. “The New You” women’s brand also includes a television show in development with NBC.
