The memorial park is the brainchild of Elton Ashley III, who appropriately is the chairman of the Memorial Park Committee. "When I first thought of this I was thinking of a small stone, maybe a flag pole," Mr. Ashley said. "But when I met up with these great vets, it turned into a 2-acre memorial. Now it will expand from not only a place to honor vets, but also people who have served the poker community, police and fire. In the future, we will have a stone for firefighters and one for police."
